Welcome!

After much deliberating, I've decided to start a blog. Jerad and I are so proud of our first home. We are constantly working to improve it, so we thought we'd share our journey with you. Happy renovating!

Update on furniture and a recipe

I don't believe I ever posted the 'afters' from this post  -http://love-sweat-renovate.blogspot.com/2012/01/house-update.html

We purchased a few things from our neighbors- a dresser, two king chairs, a coffee table, and a rocking chair.    Here are a few pics of them in action!

Four large, deep drawers for storage.

The dresser is now in the first bedroom down the hallway.  This is one of our guest rooms that has a queen bed.  Eventually, we'll work on replacing the other furniture in this room, but it works for now.

Coffee table moved to the Red room at the front of the house.  This isn't a great picture, but you get the idea =)

I made this recipe a few weeks back and it was a crowd pleaser- easy peasy too!  I switched it up a bit, but followed the general recipe.

Measure rice crispies and melt your creamy peanut butter.

Heat marshmallows and butter in a saucepan. When smooth, pour over the rice crispies and mix well.

Press the marshmallow rice crispy mixture into a greased pan.  Pour the peant butter on top then add M&Ms.  (The recipe called for adding chocolate and peanut butter cups, but I thought what I had was good enough for the waistline.)

Once this cooled, I pulled from my pan and served on a platter.  Fun design and yummy treat!  Enjoy!

3D/ 4D Sonos!

Probably hard to tell without hearing the sonographer walk you through, but you’ll get the jist.

The umbilical cord and her arms were infront of her face for the most part, but you can see some glimpses of what she’s going to look like!  They said she looks perfect- growing as expected- starting to get chubby cheeks =)

Enjoy!

Doggie Doors

Last weekend we had our handy man, Javier, install two doggie doors.

With Jerad travelling more for work and the baby coming, we liked the idea of the dogs letting themselves out once in a while....or all the time.. hehehe.  We spent most of the weekend training them to go in and out.  They're slowly getting the hang of it!

He cut a hole in the door from the laundry room to the garage, and  one in the door from the garage outside.

Picture of me measuring to make sure it's straight of course!

From the garage looking out-  they're small...actually made for cats.  They're the perfect fit for Rusty and Frisco!

From the outside looking in the garage (before we re-attached the steel cover over the non-painted foot of the door).  Happy potty training!

Love

So I've been busy working on another craft-  my  LOVE signs.  I wasn't sure how they'd turn out, but I played around with them for a couple days and eventually glued!

This was one trial

But I wasn't crazy about the letter formatting-  oh yea...how I did it?  Took four pieces of canvas, hot glued fabric over the front of each, and arranged buttons to form letters.

Here is the final-  hung above the bed

I'm really pleased with how they turned out!  I hope you like them too!

New Appliances!!!

A couple weekends ago, we purchased some new appliances from Sears Scratch and Dent.  Our dishwasher was old and leaking and looked gross, so we went into the store looking to replace it.

Before-

After....ahhh...sign, she's such a beauty.

But while we were there, we decided to check out their double ovens.  Our top oven wasn't keeping a consistent temperature and when I used the bottom over, the door was hot to the touch.  No bueno for a soon to be toddler in the house.  So we knew we needed to replace eventually.

Before-

Ciao senoritas!

And After- they fit absolutely perfectly in our cabinetry.  It was meant to be!

After once I polished.  Do the happy dance!!

More nursery

Jerad and I bought some great pieces of furniture from one of our firends who was moving out of state.  The color happens to coordinate perfectly with our bedding, so we don't even have to paint!

I searched all over the place for a 'changing table/ dresser' that would work for us.  We need something long enough to fit a changing pad and a couple baskets, deep enough to fit the width of the changing pad, and tall enough to be comfortable for us (we're tall!).  But as you can see, 54inches long was our max- most pieces out there right now are longer than that.  This was perfect-  shabby chic, rustic like our house, lots of storage, and fits our spot perfectly....and only $100!!

We also purchased this adorable dresser for the nursery closet to provide more storage- however, I think we might leave the doors open since I love it so much!  Again it fits the color palette and was way below budget- only $150!! .....And yes, I purchased my first outfits this weekend!  It's Emily Base's fault!  =)  Too cute to pass up.

Tuesday night of this week, our neighborhood friends group hosted a 75229 Diaper Dinner for me and another girl who's due in March.   See Lisa and I below.

Check out the bootie supplies I received- soooo excited!

Two girls made this adorable diaper cake, with KRR's initials.  Thank you Camille and Natasha!

I sorted the diapers by size and stashed in our wonderful dresser!   Talk about a perfect fit!

Crafts!

Not sure what was with me last weekend, but I was more crafty than usual.  Personalizing the nursery has definitely been my favorite part.

First project- decorating a lamp shade.  We bought two dressers and a lamp from a friend who was moving out of town and the lamp shade was in bad shape.  Instead of tossing and buying a new one, I thought I'd try to 'recover' first.  The idea was kinda wild, but I really like the finished project...or at least I do for now! =)

I hot glued fake flowers to the shade.  It creates really beautiful light actually!  So suprised!

Check out our new dresser as well- I love the feet!  It's 'shabby chic', has four large drawers in the front and two large shelves on either side.  It's perfect for our changing table.  We have plenty of counter space for baskets, the changing table and a lamp.  And it was only.....$100!  SCORE!

Second project- Decorative initials.   BTW, we decided on a name- it's official -Katherine Reese Romo!

First I painted turqouise - three thick coats.

Then, on the last coat, I glittered, because WHY NOT!?  She's a girl- can never have too much glitter.

Close up with our fabric.

Kitchen

Switching gears- we've been busy organizing our nursery, registering, and preparing for Katherine's arrival.  Part of that process includes getting small jobs done to the house that we've been wanting to do but have been putting off.  First up- additional lighting in the kitchen.  Javier came over and installed four canned lights- I LOVE LIGHTING- I can't tell you how much brighter and cleaner it feels.

One more view-  we have an appointment this weekend with the granite guy that did our master bath so wish us good luck on getting a reasonable quote!

Also, say byebye to those 1960's double ovens...thanks to Sears scratch and dent, they'll be replaced this weekend.  More pictures to follow!

More nursery

On MLK, I worked half day then came home and went to work!  Sometmes I find it easier to tackle projects while Mr. Romo is away at work.  =)

First, cleaning out the closet.  I used to keep my seasonal clothes in this closet, but now we need room for Katherine Reese!  My clothes went to the empty closet in the hallway - Our home is blessed with storage space!

After- baskets from Marshalls, temporary dresser placed there...I'll update later with what we bought for this spot!

Next project- window treatments.  I HATE the window treatments that were in this room, but what can I say...they were free, came with the house and served their purpose.

During-  down came the roman shades.

And up went the faux wood shutters.  I have to admit, this took me a long time to do by myself.  And I probably shouldn't have been climbing on the ladder while pregnant, but I'm a do-er, so that's what I do.  This window is six feet wide, so the shutters were mighty heavy to lift and screw by myself.

While I was updating, I went ahead and changed out the roman shades in the jack and jill, so the treatments would match.

Ahhh- love the finished project!

Nursery Progress

This is the room before-  I haven't really decorated it as I knew it would eventually be the nursery, so it has odds and ends for furniture.  It used to be our office...

Remember the bed we purchased from our neighbors- here it is.  So sad...all of Jerad's football 'wall of fame' will have to come down to make room for Katherine!
Fabric from Hobby Lobboy- a lady from Etsy is making our baby bedding.  Love it!

Some possibilities for wall decor from Hobby Lobby.  Not sure what I'll actually use yet - we'll see!

The following weekend we purchased our crib!  And our crib mattress and toddler convertible rail. We bought a Serta- firm, but not too hard.  You don't want a plush mattress for a newborn as it increases the risk of suffocation.

The crib arrived on a Friday afternoon- even though we were beat from the week of work, we HADDD to put it together Friday night!

I convinced Jerad to read the instructions- was much easier to install!

So happy!  We wanted something neutral, and feminine, but not so feminine that it couldn't be used later for a little boy.

With fabrics.  Can't wait until we get our bedding!
